What We Believe.

What we, as a church, value and believe.

V.B.C. is "a church with a heart".

Simply put, our church aims to give their whole heart to God, others, and the community of Valparaiso. We accomplish this through engaging Bible Study, impactful worship services, relationship building, and community partnership. Come be a part of what we are doing.

A Heart for God

Above all else, Scripture teaches us to love God supremely. Everything in the Christian life stems from our love for God. If we live the Christian life out of obligation, we will not get very far. Living the Christian life with this worldview is drudgery. God desires more for us. When we grasp how much God loves us, everything changes. We begin to live life with a new perspective. At VBC, we remind ourselves of this love regularly because everything else flows from it.

Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment
— Matthew 22: 36-38

A Heart for Others

In the passage below, Jesus not only taught us to love God with our whole heart; He likewise taught us to “love our neighbor.” In fact, Jesus said, “all of the scripture hinges upon these two commands.” In essence, Jesus taught us that all of scripture is written to help us love God and others better. In short, we believe, if Jesus placed that high of a premium on loving others, maybe we too ought to have a heart for others as well.

Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love fulfills the law.
— Romans 13: 8-10

A Heart for our Community

Jesus intended His church to be a lighthouse to the community. Jesus said, “ Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” The church can help others see God’s goodness like nothing else. We aim to be that kind of church. We want to serve our community and help people taste and see that God is good.

But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.
— Jeremiah 29:7
